Making Masks

Don’t worry…these aren’t ghosts!  During our Treasure Hunt class, we’ve started making paster masks that are going to painted gold!  Then we’ll put the masks in our treasure boxes, hide them at the Fremont Community School and make a map for our friends to find them.  I’ll post more pictures when we are finished!

Puppet Madness

For Puppet Parade class we made oragami puppets that were taped to sticks.   We came up with two different stories: 3 kittens and a mom get seperated by a flood and have to build a boat to sale across the ocean and a story about three seal pups that get seperated from their mom when a glacier splits.

Here’s a family of cats including a mom, dad, aunt, uncle and two babies.

Around the World Class goes to Eygpt…

During our Around the World art class on Monday, we started off by creating our own alphabet similar to the hieroglyphics from Eygpt.

Once we were finished with our alphabet, we started to work on our sarcophagus.   To make our sarcophagus, we used cardboard and tin foil. We used our secret alphabet to write messages.  Then we painted patterens on the sarcophagus to make it beautiful and more interesting.   After the paint was dry we drew background pictures of Eygpt.  Naomi had just studied Eygpt, so her drawing includes the Nile River.

A Trip Under the Sea!

Future sight of the Submarine! See the bumpers…

During the Trip Under the Sea class, we will building a life-sized submarine in the front garden area of the Fremont Community School. We started construction on the submarine by drilling a board to the fence that will support the found car bumpers that we will use for the frame. We also cleared the area and made the ground flat by raking and adding leaves.

Picture 003After working outside, we moved in to make some painted submarines that have transparent window looking out into the sea. Each created different kinds of fish, plant-life and imaginary sea-life by drawing with markers on the transparency film. Then we cut out the windows of the submarine and taped the transparencies to the back.

Creature and Monster again…

Collaborative Collage Creature

Yesterday during our Creatures and Monsters class we created a large 5 foot tall collaged creature named Joe. Out of a hat, each child drew a different body part they were in charge of creating to make Joe. We looked through magazines to find textures that we like, then cut out the body shapes. The child responsible for making the hands had to talk to the child making the legs to know how many to make. This also went for hands and arms, necks and head and heads and hats!!! It was a true collaboration!

Magnet Monster

After we were finished creating Joe, we moved on to smaller creatures on magnets. Each child got to create different creatures by combining body parts that they had drawn, colored and then cut out of a soft magnet material. These creatures can be rearranged as well as holding up important information on your refrigerator.

Monsters and Creatures Class with Sam and Charlie!

Last Wednesday, Sam and Charlie used their FREE Coupon for a Monsters and Creatures class. They really got into creating many arms, legs, and other body parts to their creatures. Instead of just printing the scratchfoam in a rectangle format, we cut out each body part, used a brayer to put in the ink and with the heel of our hand pressed the paper onto the foam. They turned out great!
